re:Grateful

I wrote this on the date that is posted below the poem. However, I decided that I would post it today because of the mixed feelings I have with coming up to Christmas. Christmas is usually a time to be happy, merry, love, joy, hope and be with family. For some though it can be sad, a time to remember loved ones, stressful, a time where you might be away from home, etc. At the end of the day though I would have to say that even though I may have experienced pain, sorrow and a few other negative 'life' feelings throughout this year- I am grateful, I'm grateful for what I have, the opportunities I have been given and the people that I have met because I don't think that I would be who I was without them.

GRATEFUL

A princess who lives in tortured world

A world that has seen many wars

Many tears, hardship, pain and sorrow

Where there are people that live in rags or mansions

People who have plenty or who starve

People who see hatred instead of love

People who have no way out

Even though there is always light

Where there is darkness

There are those who are sick

Emotionally and physically

Those who could be perfectly healthy if they were not

Carried away by addiction

Those who could run a marathon

If they decided to put one foot in front of another

There are some who are lost in the confusion

Of the foreign language they have understood their entire lives

There are politicians that say one thing when they mean another

They argue over the big issues, climate change, education,

economy, health,

The world tortured by so much

The princess is who she is because of her family and friends

Her smile, her laughter, her kindness, generosity,

Her belief in hope

Her knowledge of love

The love that is shared

The love she knows many people have or want

The love that is a universal feeling

The love she hopes more people would think of

Because maybe then

The world would be calmer, less tortured,

She has everything

She is one of the more fortunate ones

Therefore she is

Grateful
